Drug cartels across Mexico are increasingly turning to car bombs, explosives-laden drones and improvised explosive devices, a trend that could further strain Mexico’s already tense relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly threatened military action against the cartels. The latest incident occurred Sunday night outside a police station in Ojocaliente, a town in the north-central state of Zacatecas, about 360 miles (580 km) northwest of Mexico City. No one was killed, but the explosion of 200 kilograms (440 pounds) of explosives injured 11 people and damaged more than 60 homes in the city center, Mexico’s security chief Omar García Harfuch said Friday during a…
Impact firms are keen to incorporate artificial intelligence into investment strategies and will likely deploy the technology more and more as they start to trust the results. That’s according to Ryan Clancy, head of impact management and AI strategy at Toronto-based impact specialist Rally Assets. “Right now in the industry, we are seeing a focus on productivity and experimentation as opposed to wider-spread adoption,” he says.
Stocks kicked off September on shaky footing as higher oil prices and Treasury yields tested investors’ appetite for some of the market’s biggest artificial intelligence winners. The report added to inflation concerns already stoked by…

I study how short-form design amplifies self-control problems in digital media. Short units repeatedly renew temptation that lasts longer than each unit, turning local temptation into sustained overconsumption. Using microdata from a U.S. short-drama platform, I exploit a nonlinear top-up menu to infer viewing plans and show that paying users watch 82.1% more than intended. Structural estimates imply an average temptation horizon of 11.2 minutes, short relative to the full drama but long relative to one-minute episodes. Counterfactuals show that larger decision units, default limits, and breaks improve long-run welfare. A short-video calibration highlights the broader welfare relevance. That is…
