What this hourly to salary calculator does

Salary Converter (Hourly to Yearly and More)

This hourly to salary calculator converts any pay rate into every common pay period. Enter your pay and choose whether it's per hour, day, week, two weeks, month or year, and it shows your:

  • yearly pay
  • hourly and daily rate
  • weekly pay
  • pay every two weeks and twice a month
  • monthly pay

You can adjust your hours per week, days per week and paid weeks per year, and add overtime at time-and-a-half or any other rate.

How to use it

  1. Pay and "per": for example $25 per hour, or $60,000 per year.
  2. Hours and days per week: 40 hours over 5 days is standard full-time.
  3. Paid weeks per year: use 52 if your holidays are paid. If you take unpaid time off, reduce it, for example to 50.
  4. Overtime (optional): extra hours each week and the overtime rate, often 1.5×.

The formulas

  • Hourly to yearly: hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks per year
  • Yearly to hourly: yearly pay ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks per year)
  • Monthly: yearly pay ÷ 12
  • Every two weeks: yearly pay ÷ 26

Example: $25 an hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 a year, or about $4,333 a month.

A quick shortcut

At 40 hours a week, double the hourly rate and add three zeros for a rough yearly figure: $25 an hour ≈ $50,000 a year. The exact figure is a little higher, because a year has 52 weeks: $52,000.

Gross vs take-home pay

The calculator shows gross pay, before tax and deductions. Your take-home pay depends on the tax rules where you live and deductions like retirement contributions. Budget with take-home pay: our budget planner splits it into needs, wants and savings.

When to use an hourly to salary calculator

An hourly to salary calculator is most useful when you’re comparing two different kinds of pay. Common examples include weighing a salaried job offer against your current hourly role, working out what a part-time position pays over a full year, or checking whether overtime makes an hourly job worth more than a salary.

It also helps with budgeting. Bills arrive monthly, but many people are paid weekly or every two weeks. Converting your pay to a monthly figure makes it much easier to build a realistic budget, and to see how much you can save each month.

Finally, use it to judge raises. A $1-an-hour raise sounds small, but at full-time hours it’s worth about $2,080 a year. Seeing the yearly figure makes it easier to negotiate, and to check whether a raise keeps up with rising prices. The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ CPI Inflation Calculator shows how much prices have changed, and our salary vs inflation calculator compares your pay with those changes.
