Runway launches plugins for Premiere Pro and After Effects, bringing AI-generated video editing directly into Adobe workflows.

Runway's AI Tools Now Integrated in Adobe Premiere, After Effects

Runway AI has launched plugins for Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, enabling video editors to generate, restyle, and integrate AI-powered footage directly within their timelines. The announcement, made on September 8, 2026, marks a significant step in reducing workflow friction for creators who rely on Adobe’s industry-standard tools.

Previously, using Runway’s generative models required exporting frames, uploading them to a browser, and re-importing the results. The new plugins eliminate this cumbersome process. Users can now access AI models like Runway’s Aleph 2 within their editing environment, allowing for seamless transformations of existing clips. Edited footage can be restyled, upscaled, or extended directly on the timeline, with changes applied at the playhead in Premiere Pro or within compositions in After Effects.

    What’s New for Editors

The integration focuses on efficiency. Editors can now modify anchor frames in their clips and use AI to re-render the full sequence—maintaining the original duration and resolution. Additional features include HDR conversion, background removal, and one-click upscaling, all accessible from the plugin interface.

Runway also enables cross-team collaboration with a built-in workspace switcher, allowing users to manage projects across multiple accounts. Generations and edits use credits from a user’s existing Runway subscription plan, ensuring continuity for current customers.

    Adobe’s Expanding AI Ecosystem

Runway’s move comes alongside Adobe’s broader push into AI. On the same day, Adobe announced new generative features for Premiere Pro and After Effects, highlighting partnerships with Runway, Google Veo, Adobe Firefly, and others. This strategy aims to give creators access to a variety of AI tools directly within Adobe’s applications, further reinforcing its dominance in the video editing space.

Runway’s plugin is available for free download on macOS and Windows, though generating content requires a paid subscription. For video editors accustomed to exporting and re-importing assets, the plugin offers a streamlined alternative that could save both time and effort.

    What’s Next?

Runway’s recent updates, including the launch of Aleph 2.0 in June 2026, have positioned the company as a leader in AI-assisted video workflows. With its Adobe integration, Runway is betting on deeper adoption by professional creators. As generative AI continues to reshape creative industries, tools like these are likely to become a staple in modern editing suites.

Download the Runway plugin to explore its capabilities within Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
