(RTTNews) – Spectral Medical Inc. (EDT.TO), a late-stage theranostic company, on Friday announced updates regarding its 100-day meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Toraymyxin in treating sepsis.
Sepsis is a life-threatening illness defined by the entry of bacteria into the blood. Treated with a heavy dose of broad-spectrum antibiotics, treatments often focus on the removal of endotoxins generated by the organisms from the bloodstream.
Toraymyxin (PMX) was designed as a therapeutic hemoperfusion device to remove endotoxins from the blood in cases of sepsis. The level of endotoxins are measured using the company’s Endotoxin Activity Assay (EAA), which previously received FDA clearance.
The company submitted a Premarket Approval (PMA) application for Toraymyxin to the FDA, which subsequently initiated a substantive review of the data. However, several days before the 100-day meeting, the FDA issued Spectral a deficiency letter, requiring further information, analyses, and testing to complete the review.
The company stated belief that the 100-day meeting was constructive, as it gained clarity on the outstanding details required by the FDA. The FDA did not request any additional clinical trials to validate Toraymyxin.
Currently, Spectral intends to advance the PMA review with the items requested by the FDA. No delays in the present regulatory timeline are anticipated.
